The grand adventures of Boy Danger (aka The Green Owl) have continued as we've rolled further into the month of January. He stuffed a large piece of plastic heart shaped confetti up his nose which resulted in a visit to the doctor's office. He fell of the bunk bed. He managed to pop a balloon with the touch of a finger. (Super powers, I tell ya!) And most recently he decided to attempt shaving... his legs... which resulted in a lot of blood and tears... and a new band aid. Other adventures have included a field trip to the fire station, library and grandparent's houses. (I'm happy to report all of these adventures were injury free!) We've been busy counting by tens, learning different states, reading, counting money, and learning about place value, too. Super Ashton has been learning to spell and write numbers correctly. ...and writing letters. And writing more letters! Super Ashton in action, writing to a friend in Tennessee. And The Green Owl has been busy, well, learning about owls of course!
Here he is, caught in action coloring a snowy owl... (Which was later snipped to bits by a scissors) Hehe. Have I mentioned how much The Green Owl loves scissors? He's snipped his pillow (er, more like stabbed his pillow) and also given numerous stuffed owls hair cuts. Yep, he loves scissors... snip, snip!

...and we're only half way through January! A lot of our recent schooling has involved "real life" experiences. We've measured furniture at furniture stores. We've counted money from piggy banks. We've been counting backwards. And counting by tens. And reading like reading machines. We've been going on undercover missions at grocery stores. (These missions involve reading signs, matching coupons and wearing super hero capes!) I present to you: "The Green Owl" and "Super Ashton." About two weeks ago the boy's dresser fell on top of them. (True story, super yikes!) I've always been cautious about tv stands and dresser; in fact, I'd kept their dresser in their closet until recently. I asked B to get some socks, assuming he'd find some on the floor. (We kind of have a sock swamp 'round here) For some reason, B decided to climb the dresser instead. I heard a loud crash and found both of the boys pinned underneath. The dresser was so heavy, I couldnt even lift it by myself. Amazingly enough, neither boy received any real injuries. (Praise!) We replaced the dresser with a plastic storage shelf. If you have kiddos, please make sure your tv stands, dressers, etc aren't a safety hazard. You can never be too safe! Here is a photo of Mr. A following directions and building the new "dresser." Boy Danger! Besides the dresser tipping incident, he also stuffed a large plastic heart shaped piece of confetti up his nose. True story which resulted in a LOT of tears and a trip to the doctor's office. I can only imagine what the other parents were thinking when they heard me say, "Its okay, the doctor is going to make you feel better. He's going to get the heart out." Oh boy. I'm definitely going to tape a piece the of the confetti in his baby book. (He's watching me type this right now... captioning the photo above in the words of boy danger himself: "That's me cutting my eye." I think "The Green Owl" may have to rethink his super hero name! Mr. A officially turned 6 years old! Confession: I was so excited to eat the cake- I starting cutting it before I snapped a photo. D'oh! Who doesn't love a cookie cake?! And he lost his first tooth the day after his birthday. :) Isn't he cute?! I was quite excited when a cashier handed me this dollar bill: Wheresgeorge.com?! Um, awesome!!! It's been YEARS since I've seen a wheresgeorge bill. Have I ever mentioned my love for them? Well, I love them. We mapped it. It's made quite the journey from Ypsilanti, MI. This particular George has been traveling since July 30th, 2009.
I was the first person (after the initial tracker) to post about its location. I wonder if the initial tracker still checks forupdates. Wheresgeorge.com: I think it's interesting. And fun. And a good learning experience too. It's hard for me to believe that Little Mr. "A" will soon turn 6. Six?! That's like a hold hand of fingers plus one! I feel so blessed to have such a sweet son. He's the most polite little boy I know- always sure to use his manners. He's caring and goes out of his way to cheer me up with artful little doodles. He loves Jesus. And donkeys. And Legos. And his little brother. No one can make him laugh like Mr. Happy Trails does. And I love the sound of his infectious little giggle. He's a Super Hero. He even has a real super power. He shoots webs. But not like a spider. (That's gross!) He shoots his out of his hands. He's very attentive and I've enjoyed being his Kindergarten teacher this year. He has the BEST attitude, and I am so thankful for that. He's eager to learn and always obedient. We were at Culvers the other day and he raced ahead of us to hold the door for everyone. Things like that make me smile. They make my heart feel warm and fuzzy. He's always quick to think of others. He's really growing into quite the little gentleman. I feel so blessed God chose me to be his mom. We recently went away for a night to celebrate #6. An "early" birthday party of sorts- just our little family. It was super. We gave him his present before we left. He was pretty stinkin' excited! Hanging out in the hotel room... waiting for the water park to open. Little Mr. "B's" super power caught on film: flying from the couch to the bed. Ready to go swimming! I didnt bring my camera into the water park, but I snapped a few photos through the window. We had so much fun! Our room had a bunk bed, king size bed and sofa sleeper. Wanna guess where fell asleep? On the floor! Hehe. Fun in the photo booth with Dad. Saying goodbye to the fish. We've been going to this hotel since Ashton was about 7 months old. He's always loved the fish. These sweet smiles say it all!
Little Mr. A, I love you to the moon and back. A prayer for you, from my favorite book: "I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13 I am so happy to see the love you have for your Savior. It is my hope that you will always seek Him first, before all other things. Love Him about all things, as it's only in knowing Him that true and lasting happiness is found. Keep smiling! Love always, Mom |
