Yes, it's true! School's out for summer! Our family was blessed to travel to Sanibel Island, Florida in April. Sanibel is the "Seashell Captial" of the world. Fancy that, my friends! It was paradise... so peaceful and pretty and perfect. I'll be sure to blog about our terrific trip in an upcoming post. My travel journal has been MIA since we returned home. (Really hoping it shows up sometime soonish, so I can share our good times with you with as much detail as possible) Shortly after we returned home, we wrapped our school year up. I successfully finished homeschooling my first year. We pretty much rocked the socks off of it. (High fives, anyone? Maybe a ninja kick or two? Cartwheels are okay too!) I'm already looking forward to the next school year, but in the meantime, I'm 100% committed to enjoying every bit of summer. Starting with our most recent news... We woke up bright and early this morning and spent some time creating our very own American flags. Then we got dressed in our red, white and blue. A short bit later, we realized it was depressingly cold outside, so we bundled up with some hoodies, met some friends outside, ventured up the street and around the corner to... the parade! We had a marvelous time watching the floats and celebrating our heroes. When we returned home, we visited a neighbor of ours, and thanked him for his service with his very own handmade flag. The Fantastic Okapi was given a few options for summer activities: 1. T-ball 2. Soccer 3. Flag football 4. Explore state parks You can imagine my excitement when he chose... drum roll please: SOCCER and and exploring state parks. Yahoo! I'm officially a soccer mom, ya'll! It's pretty much a dream come true. He's played a few games so far, and I'm very impressed with our local soccer program. Every time we cut the grass The Green Owl yells, "No, you're killing them!" I'm sure our neighbors have been wondering what's been going on... we've been giving him a little glass to run around to "save" them with. It seems to work well, and means lotsa cheerful lil bouquets for me. It's a win-win! Wanna know something really cute? One night after we cut the grass, the Fantastic Okapi prayed for the dandelions to come back because he knows how much the Green Owl likes them... It was pretty stinkin' awesome when new dandelions started growing the.very.next.day. As you can see, The Green Owl has fallen head over heels in love with dandelions. He's become quite the dandelion sniffer. And collector. Do you like dandelions? I LOVE dandelions; they're such bright little bursts of cheer. I mean, what's the deal with green grass? So not for me! My grass needs a little spice. Cheerfully spicy grass means lots of happy bouquets for me! In other exciting news, we mircowaved a bar of Ivory soap... (Thank you, pinterest, for the neato idea) It turned into a great big poofy cloud. Pretty spiffy. We set it in the bathtub and let the boys play with it for awhile before running some bath water... This photo shows some tiny pieces of the cloud and two boys who were SUPER excited to play with it. Did you know that The Fantastic Okapi makes pillow nests? Well, he does! And they're pretty awesome, too. Even though school is out for summer, we are still learning every day...
through adventures, trips to the grocery store, exploring nature... and The Fantastic Okapi has started a journal. Family Dollar sells coolio journals that have writing space at the bottom and drawing space at the top. Super awesome, my friends. Super awesome. I love proper punctuation, spelling... etc. (Even though I'm not a grammar pro, this is fun for me) I really enjoy teaching him proper capitalization and punctuation... although he magically turned his last period into an exclamation point. Ha. It's fun when we read the stories outloud; he's able to hear the difference between periods and exclamations. Be sure to check back soon for our travel update. Ahem. Be sure to check back soon for travel update! (That's more like it!) Coming in a post-- in the near future!
