This week we learned all about the things God created. What a fun week! My husband and I split the subjects, and each took turns teaching. I feel so blessed that he's such a big part of our homeschooling experience. Pictured above is one of our art projects. We found a .50 cent puzzle at a thrift store and spent time "dabbing" paint on the pieces. We used a crumpled up paper bag for the trunk and limbs. I think they turned out really pretty. (I can't stop starting at them!) I wrote "God created" with a highlighter, and Ashton had fun tracing over it with a permanent Sharpie. (Yep, we're brave!) Our school days last about an hour - two hours each morning, which leaves plenty of extra time for playing, visiting and other fun adventures. Our "Heart of Dakota" science curriculum. I'm 100% pleased with this purchase! In fact, I just put the boys to bed about 10 minutes ago, and I can hear them singing their social studies song about the 7 continents. Hehe. Jed has been reading the boys a chapter book, Reddy Fox. He helped Ashton write a note to Reddy, warning him about the dangers of being bold. Ashton drew a fox and signed his name. We went on our first field trip with VHS today. We visited an apple orchard. We enjoyed a tour of the orchard and each of the boys filled a 5 lb bag with apples... 10 lbs of apples for just $4.00! We've been busy munching away ever since. (Cortland apples are simply delicious!) And, of course I saved the cute little bags- they're going to make fantastic envelopes! We found these cute cookie cutters at Hobby Lobby. ($1.25 total) Next week, as part of our math lesson, we're going to measure out ingredients to create some dog treats. I think Willow (who we often call Winnie) and Buddy are going to be quite happy about this! And, last weekend we ventured to central Wisconsin... in search of (perhaps) the most difficult rock formation, Rattlesnake Mound. After much searching, and a few wrong turns, we happened to stumble upon it. It was absolutely beautiful- somewhat like paradise! No one else was around... we hiked up and had a picnic between two rock formations, a nd then enjoyed exploring the mound. Here are a few photos from our little adventure.... Enjoy! Yep, that's my honey up there! In a secret cave. A little slice of heaven.

Whew, well! Our school year was officially supposed to begin tomorrow... but, life had other plans, and our start has been delayed a bit. I'm not the least bit concerned though, because that's the beauty of homeschooling: flexibility! Later this week, we'll be doing "Back to School" themed photo shoot. (Looking quite forward to it) I started looking through my teaching supplies tonight and am excited to start school next Monday, September 17. I absolutely adore our curriculum, and am already convinced it was the perfect choice for our family. In other news, we took a mini road trip to Friendship, Wisconsin over the weekend. One of Jed's and my first ever camping expeditions was to Roche-a-Cri State Park, so it was fun to go back and visit. (Part of our love story!) It was a beautiful day... storm clouds were rolling in when we got there, and the beauty of the prairie took my breath away. We were able to hike a bit, and also historic rock carvings. I did not bring my camera along, because I didn't want it to interfere with the carefree, fun adventure we were going on. It's very likely we will be visiting again in the near future, and if that holds true, my camera will come with us. Here are a few recent photos I'd like to share with you: This is my "teacher" handbook. (With my planning sheet tucked inside) We are using "Heart of Dakota." If you're looking for a fantastic Christian based curriculum, I highly recommend checking out HOD. (Very reasonably priced, too) Their website can be found by visiting this link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/ I have the entire Kindergarten HOD curriculum, but still enjoy picking up supplemental books at thrift stores. I was quite excited to find this book for just .59 cents! (It even has a copyright release- woo!) In other news, Ashton helped make supper tonight. (In honor of the first day of football, we made Tim Tebow's Mom's Pizza) De-lish! Ready for some football. Ashton and Buddy.
