Sylvan Lake, the Cabin and Crazy HorseI'm excited to share part 4 of our vacation with you. I still have Part 5 (Wildlife Loop Road, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road) and Part 6 (the Badlands) to share with you. But hey, we're getting there, right?! I hope you've been enjoying the journey! South Dakota is a really fun state; hopefully your family can vaca there someday, too. So, today I get to share Sylvan Lake, the cabin, and Crazy Horse! Sylvan Lake can be summed up with one word: Beautiful! When I was little, my family camped there, so it was neat to experience it again with my own family. By the time we got the the lake, it was evening, and we were losing daylight, but we were still able to do a bit of exploring! Somewhere along our way to Sylvan Lake, we passed by this random place so appropriately called, "Hole in the Wall." I love random places like this! Below, you can see our photos from Crazy Horse. We would probably not visit Crazy Horse in the future. First of all, it's double the price of Mount Rushmore. Secondly, you can get basically the same view from the street for free. If you wanna get up close and personal, you can pay $125 / person. Below you can see the viewing deck view (left) and parking lot view (right). The street view is basically the same. I regret that I did not take more photos of the cabin we stayed at. It was a beautiful place- the boys enjoyed their loft upstairs. Their stuffed animals enjoyed sliding down the railing. There was a creek in the backyard with a little old bridge. There was also a super steep hill near the creek that Mr. Mustard Seed wanted to climb, We originally planned to spend 5 nights at the cabin, but the forecast was calling for 2 feet of snow, so we had to leave after 2 nights. One night a deer paid us a visit, which was neat! I've got a lot more fun animal photos to share next time! Left: our visitor, Right: the red arrow points to the cabin.

dEADWOODWe spent one night of our vacation in Deadwood, South Dakota. At first, I wasn't sure how much we'd like the city, because we aren't gamblers, but I can tell you that the city itself is so very beautiful. I'm so glad we spent a bit of our time there- I'd go back again in a heart beat! Some of our favorite things about our time there: The old down town! So cool. Brick streets. Old furniture in the old shops. Steep steep hills. Our hotel room was amazing! So fancy! The pool was fancy and the breakfast buffet was delish! Some of the houses in Deadwood are on really, REALLY steep hills. (Which totally made me wonder what they do in the winter, because, in case you missed the first sentence of this paragraph, the hills were steep, dude!) Unfortunately, I don't have any steep street photos to share, which I regret. We decided to walk up one of the steep hill streets. It was quite the exhausting hike. Mr. Mustard Seed realized that if we walked backwards, it was easier. And so, there we were, a bunch of crazy Wisconsin folk, walking around Deadwood backwards. I'm sure it was quite the funny sight! We stumbled upon an old cemetery while walking up the steep street, so we spent some time investigating the old gravestones and things. BW had some fun collecting pine cones, little treasures that now reside in my glass vintage Mr. Peanut container. Are you ready for Deadwood?! Come take a peek! I did'nt realize my camera wasn't focusing properly, so please excuse the bummer blurriness: Chillin' with the famous Deadwood Dick. Hanging out downtown in an old gold mine cart. sPEARFISH cANYON AND rOUGHLOCK fALLSThe very next day, we started our journey through Lead to Spearfish. Lead was a neat city. Old and cute. My type of town! The journey to Spearfish Canyon and Roughlock Falls was beautiful. At times I felt like I was dreaming, because it was just that pretty. It was just that perfect. The next photo was taken while we were walking to Roughlock Falls. It was such a peaceful walk- something I needed at that moment, considering the deep tragedy that struck our hometown the day we left. It was here, at Roughlock Falls, that my troubled heart was able to experience the peace and goodness of my Jesus. Because of that, this will always be a special place to me. So much beauty. Just the 4 of us, the crunch of our feet on the trail, chirping birds, a trickling creek, light raindrops sprinkling down, and the rush of a waterfall in the distance. Beautiful Roughlock Falls. There were so many snails cruising the trails with us. Here is a silly picture of Mr. Sunshine and a few of the snails we encountered. I promise no snails were harmed in the taking of these pictures. And here I am, at one of my new favorite places in the entire world.
So happy to be there with my three favorite people, experiencing the beauty and goodness of my Lord and Savior, the Perfecter of my faith. and the Prince of peace. Rapid City Presidents, |
