If you read my previous blog post, you are now acquainted with Flat Stanley. I'm so excited to include him in our homeschool this year. Over the past few days, the boys have received 3 Flat Stanley's and 1 Flat Stella in the mail. They are visiting from Canada (x2), Nevada and Alaska. Here they all are, hangin' out on our couch. We plan to take them on adventures around town this weekend. Stay tuned! Our sunflowers are growing, growing, growing!
Aren't they pretty? Make it a great day today, friends!!

Do you know Flat Stanley? Do you, do you? If you don't, you must "yahoo" him right now. (Or visit this link: http://www.flatstanley.com/about ) I honestly had no idea who the fine fella was until earlier this week. Flat Stanley originated from a book written by Jeff Brown, first published in 1964, The project itself was started by a Canadian teacher named Dale Hubert in '94. This is going to be such an exciting addition to our homeschool year- I CAN'T WAIT! Flat Stanley is a fun way to incorporate geography, writing, art, and even math! And the boys are 1,000 times excited too. So excited, in fact, that we've already signed up! Four other participants have already expressed interest in exchanging with us. Yahoo!!! Here's a photo of The Fantastic Okapi with the 4 Stanleys we created. We used a Stanley template to make them, but kind of thought they were a little too cookie-cut... and so, the Fantastic Okapi designed his own Stanleys. Cute, aren't they? Because we needed to send 4 Stanleys, we decided to name them after our family members. Look! Here I am! Heh. I busted out my typewriter and wrote a tiny note to go along with each one. And, because I absolutely can't send a single piece of mail without decoration, I fancied up some envelopes and tucked ourselves inside. Where will we be heading? Well, one of us will visit two boys in Canada. Another will visit a grandma and granddaughter in Canada. One of us will venture to Nevada & the other is Alaska bound. I mixed the envelopes up before addressing them, so we have no idea where each of us is headed... it will be a surprise! And then it was off to the post office!
Now, we will excitedly await the Stanley's that are coming to visit us, and eventually, we will receive our Stanley's back, too- with little notes and information on their travels. How cool, right?! Fifty days. Ten hours. Twenty one minutes. 8 seconds... and counting. Soon, our school year will officially begin. How am I feeling? Excited, of course! I can't wait to get started. I am excited to watch my boys grow and learn. To encourage them along the way. To explore, to create, to adventure! In a future blog post, I will share my curriculum with you. The Fantastic Okapi will be in first grade this year. I am using Heart of Dakota again and supplementing a bit with Positive Action for Christ. The Green Owl is in preschool. Preschool at our house is low key. It's mostly about playing, being a kid, imagining. I'll use workbooks occasionally and also purchased Positive Action for Christ's preschool workbook. I have so.much.more! I'd love to share with you about our school year but... I must hold off for now! It's still summer, after all! And summer time = party time! Wanna see how we party? ...by eating peas of course!
Hehe. The Green Owl and The Fantastic Okapi love having a garden. Tonight we snacked on peas and carrots. Good stuff, and good times too. |
