I can't believe we just finished our 5th week of school. Wowie, time is zippin'! Unfortunately, I don't have a ton of photos to share, but I still hope you enjoy your peek at our week! In history (Mystery of History), we learned about the Ice Age. I found it interesting to know the Great Lakes used to be glaciers. The boys colored their notebook page, and we also did this fun ice cube activity. Which boy could keep the ice cube on his belly the longest? Well, the answer is: neither! Because Buddy kept swiping them and eating them! sWe also learned about the Sumerians. The boys each built a ziggurat. We'll keep a photo of their creation in their notebooks. We also learned about dinosaurs. Did you know dinosaur means "terrible lizard"? In this photo, the boys are busy coloring dinosaurs that we put together with fasteners. And we learned about the Tower of Babel. I found a printable "Tower of Babel" game online, so we had fun playing that, while listening to a french cd. We worked on our timeline and memory cards, too. AW started a journal this week. He writes for 5 minutes each day. He's been writing squirrel stories. They're really cute, and he really enjoys writing them. AW is continuing to cruise a long with Teaching Textbooks 4. BW is enjoying his Calculadder math book. I actually went ahead and purchased the entire Calcupak this past week. If you'd like your child to master math facts, I highly recommend purchasing this. I spoke with the company on the phone, and they were so kind in answering my questions. It's a Christian company too! If you'd like to check it out, follow this link: Calculpak In science, we started studying birds. Each boy wrote a report on a bird of their choice. AW chose hummingbirds and BW chose puffins. Sequential Spelling 1 continues to be a great fit for AW. I started doing spelling with BW too, mainly to help him get control of not placing capital letters in the middle of words. It's going well! I decided to stop using Rod and Staff grammar. It was a lot of work to type up worksheets; I posted about that in a previous blog post. Last week I ordered First Language Lessons 1-3. I'm excited to receive them in the mail! And here is one of the reasons I enjoy homeschooling- it gives my boys the opportunity to be together and learn together, which makes my heart happy. This photo was taken after we'd finished school. AW was helping BW with reading. Moments to treasure! And here's one last photo, taken this past summer. (I can't believe how much the boys have grown since I took this photo.) We're detectives and have managed to uncover the dates of most of our neighbors birthdays.
We celebrate them with a birthday picture, birthday cupcake and bomb their sidewalk with birthday chalk cheer. Well friends, thanks for tagging along on our journey. I hope to update my "10,000 Reasons" and "Oh, Happy Day!" pages later tonight, so be sure to check them out too. How has your October been? Has anyone seen any snowflakes yet? AW had a soccer game at 8:30 on Saturday morning. It was 21 degrees and WE saw snowflakes. For reals. And it's only mid-October. Shiver.
